Rockhurst Uses Early PK to Down Cardinals

LIBERTY, Mo. - In the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener, the William Jewell women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Rockhurst University at home. The Cardinals fall to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in the GLVC. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A foul in the box gave Rockhurst a penalty kick in the 38th minute as Elizabeth Rosenthal converted to put the Hawks on top. 
  • The Cardinals had two chances in the final minutes of the opening half as Clara Fronabarger put two on goal but the Rockhurst keeper kept Jewell off the board. 
  • A physical second resulted in eight yellow cards, four for each team, before the Hawks added another score in the 85th minute by Olivia Schwarzen. 

KEY STATS
  • Fronabarger and Kate Lawrence accounted for nine of Jewell's 11 shots, with seven on goal. 
  • Katie Wagenheim played all 90 minutes in goal, tying her career high with 13 saves.  
  • Rockhurst out shot the Cardinals 24-11.
