ROLLA, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team put on a show on both ends of the floor on Saturday afternoon on their way to a 77-60 road win at Missouri S&T. The Cardinals held the league's top scoring team nearly 24 points below their season average to move to 11-10 on the season and 8-5 in the GLVC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams started slow offensively, with only four combined points scored more than four minutes into the game. Kobe McKinley hit two free throws at the 15:28 mark that seemed to spark Jewell's offense as the Cardinals went on a 23-2 run over the next eight minutes.
- Jewell held the Miners to less than 10 points for 14 minutes of the opening half and led by as many as 27 after a three from McKinley.
- The Cardinals opened the second half right where they left off, with a 14-6 run to open up a 31-point advantage. Missouri S&T got into a rhythm offensively, outscoring the Cardinals 33-18 over the next 13 minutes to get back within 16 late but a three from Luke Jordan shut the door with 1:45 to play.
KEY STATS
- McKinley enjoyed a career day, scoring 30 points on 11-of-14 from the floor. The senior came into the game with just one three point field goal this season and went 4-of-5 from long range, for the eleventh 30-point game by a Cardinal of the NCAA era and 150th all-time.
- Heri Tshiyoyo put together his sixth double-double of the year with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
- The Miners entered the game leading the league with 80 points per game in conference play (83.6 overall) but scored just 60, including only 19 in the first half as the Jewell defense held them to 21% shooting.
