Late Quincy Goal Gives Jewell Tie On Senior Day

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's soccer team got their first tie of the season against Quincy University, 2-2, in the home finale of the season. The draw moves Jewell to 1-11-1 on the season and 1-8-1 within the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). After the game the Cardinals recognized their five seniors including Juliann Smith, Rylie May, Kate Lawrence, Aubrey Avalos, and Abbey Negosian. Smith was included as a ceremonial starter after being forced to miss this season due to injury. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell came out of halftime down 1-0, but got on the board in the 48' when reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Week Anya Linstrom connected on a shot from 25 yards out over the keepers' head.
  • The Cardinals were not done scoring as three minutes later senior Kate Lawrence powered a goal to the back of the net after a cross from Riley Richardson.
  • Teams went back and forth as the second period wound down but with one minute left the Hawks got a goal to bring the score to 2-2 which would be the final.
KEY STATS
  • Lawrence scored her third career goal on her Senior Day, while Linstrom collected her third in the last four games.
  • Emily Glassman had three saves.
  • Quincy outshot the Cardinals 12-7.
UP NEXT
Jewell will be on the road Friday as they head to Bolivar, MO to take on the Southwest Baptist University Bearcats, kickoff set for 5 pm.
