LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team dropped a 3-1 contest on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals fall to 11-17 overall and 3-9 in GLVC play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals came out of the gates strong, taking a 14-11 lead after three kills from Bella LaPorta. Jewell maintained their lead, expanding it to five and winning 25-20 on a Maliyah Johnson kill. 
• Drury took a 13-10 lead midway through set two on their way to a 25-17 win to even the match. 
• Trailing 12-6 in set three, the Cardinals made a run, getting back-to-back aces by Katie Paine to tie things up at 12. The Panthers retook the lead, 24-18 and consecutive kills from LaPorta held off set point but an a service ended things, 25-20 in favor of Drury. 
• Set four was back-and-forth as a Brooke Tholen ace tied the score at 18-all but Drury got two kills from Kayli Duncan to go on top. The teams traded points but the four-point deficit could not be overcome as Jewell fell 25-21.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• LaPorta finished with 23 kills and 11 digs while Anna Godfredsen added a dozen kills and Johnson 11. 
• Tholen picked up 16 digs with Alexis Nunn adding 15. 
• Jesa Wallace posted her third straight 50-plus assist match, handing out 54.

Jewell will close out the season next weekend, hosting Rockhurst University at 6 p.m.
