LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team hits the road for the final time in the regular season as they take on Quincy and Illinois Springfield in rematches from early January.

THE SERIES
Jewell is 8-16 all-time against Quincy, including a tough 67-66 loss in the final 30 seconds back on January 7 The Cardinals will look for their first win over the Hawks since January 8, 2022. On the other side, Jewell and UIS sit even at 7-7 after a 73-63 win earlier this season and will look for their fourth win in the last six meetings.

CARDINAL NOTES

  • The Cardinals fell just short of an upset of No. 7 ranked UIndy last Saturday, as the Greyhounds hit two threes in the final two minutes to escape the Mabee Center with the win. Despite the loss, the Cardinals gained ground in the GLVC Point Rating System, moving up to the No. 2 spot heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
  • Mason Alexander scored 30 total points last weekend to push his career total to 1,380 and move into 21st place all-time, surpassing former teammate Eysan Wiley (2016-20). The fifth-year senior is also among the top-25 in minutes, games, starts, assists and three point field goals.
  • Jordan Jermain has averaged 22 points over the last four outings, pouring 88 total in the first two weeks of February. The junior leads the GLVC in total points this season with 401 and comes into the week averaging 16 per game. He needs just 26 to join the 1,000 point club and would be just the 17th player in program history to do so prior to their senior season. His career scoring average of 13.5 is on pace to finish among the top-25 all-time.
  • Kobe McKinley played in his 100th career game last weekend, averaging nine points and five rebounds over two contests. He and Heri Tshiyoyo are a potent duo in the paint for the Cardinals as both are among the top-15 in GLVC play in rebounding average, field goal percentage, and blocked shots.
  • The defense put on a show last week, holding nationally ranked UIndy, well under their season average of 78 points as well as Lewis to a season-low 54. The Cardinals enter the weekend ranked second in the GLVC in scoring defense, allowing opponents just 66.3 points per night while they are first in three point field goal defense at 32.4%.
  • Jewell had one of the best weeks of the season in terms of taking care of the basketball last week, committing just 15 total turnovers in two games. That's the best back-to-back performances of the year, matching the opening weekend against Davenport and Purdue Northwest. The Cardinals will need to continue to be strict with possessions facing three tough teams down the stretch as there is only two games separating second and eighth place teams in the GLVC standings.
