LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team hits the road for the final time this season as they travel to Quincy and Illinois Springfield.
THE SERIES
The Cardinals will be taking on Quincy and UIS in two rematches as the Hawks defeated Jewell 69-52 back on January 7 and lead the NCAA era series 12-7. Meanwhile, on the other side, the Cardinals downed the Stars 76-63 in early January and lead that series 9-5 as the teams have split the last 10 meetings.
CARDINAL NOTES
- Jewell is coming off one of their best defensive performances of the season on Saturday, falling to Indianapolis 59-55. The Cardinals held the Greyhounds to 35% shooting and just 1-of-10 from long range but couldn't missed a couple of shots down the stretch, falling in the final seconds.
- The Cardinals enter their final full week of conference play sitting third in the league in free throw percentage at 75.1%. Rachel Senn leads the team on the season at 92.3%, connecting on 24-of-26 while Bree Shannon is tied for 11th in the GLVC with a 79.5% clip in conference play, going 35-of-44 from the line.
- Jewell has utilized their length this winter, grabbing rebounds in bunches. The Cardinals are sixth in conference games in offensive rebounds per game, sitting just over 10.2 while also pulling down 24.06 defensive boards, good for seventh. Emree Zars (6.4 rpg) continues to be among the top-15 players in the league and one of only two freshman in the conference to average more than six boards per game, behind only UMSL's Morgan Ramthun (6.9 rpg).
- Ayden Shannon is one of just three rookies around the league to average more than 30 minutes per contest this season, sitting 30.04, 17th in the GLVC. In total, the Cardinal freshmen make up nearly 51% of all minutes played this season for Jewell while that number rises to 75% when looking as freshman and sophomores combined. The Cardinals have started different combinations of four freshmen and one sophomore over the last two games.
