Jewell Hosts Truman State for Senior Day

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team returns home for the final time this season on Saturday as they host Truman State for Senior Day.

THE SERIES
Jewell is 5-20 all-time against Truman State, having snapped a 15-game losing streak with a 73-64 victory back on January 12.

CARDINAL NOTES

  • The Cardinals are coming off a 75-65 setback on the road at Illinois Springfield last weekend. The Cardinals shot better than 44% from the field but couldn't keep pace with the Stars who went 9-of-18 from long range.
  • The Cardinals are third in the GLVC in conference games and fourth overall this season with more than 3.6 blocks shots per game. Jewell has 69 total rejections, one behind league leader UIndy. Heri Tshiyoyo and Kobe McKinley have combined for 57 of the 69 while Eli Wingert and Isaac Patterson each have nine apiece.
  • Jewell's defense has been stifling to some of the best offenses in the league, particularly from the three point line. The Cardinals lead the GLVC, allowing opponents just 32.6% from behind the arc, a mark that improves to 31.9% in conference play. Eight league foes have been held to 30% or less against the Cardinals.
  • Mason Alexander scored 30 total points last weekend to push his career total to 1,380 and move into 21st place all-time, surpassing former teammate Eysan Wiley (2016-20). The fifth-year senior is also among the top-25 in minutes, games, starts, assists and three point field goals.
  • Jordan Jermain enters the week looking to eclipse a new milestone. The junior leads the GLVC in total points this season with 421 and comes into the week averaging nearly 16 per game. He needs just six to join the 1,000 point club and would be just the 17th player in program history to do so prior to their senior season. His career scoring average of 13.5 is on pace to finish among the top-25 all-time.
  • The Cardinals are enter the final week looking to secure their place in the GLVC Tournament. Jewell currently sits in second place in the league's point rating system, their highest-ever spot in the standings at this point in the season.
  • Jewell will recognize six seniors on Saturday prior to tip off. Mason Alexander and Robbie Hanson will graduate after five years with the Cardinals while Kobe McKinley, Trey Shannon and Jevaughn Ferguson are four-year players. Additionally, Heri Tshiyoyo is a second year transfer from Tarleton State and will wrap up his Mabee Center career as well. The group has combined for 3,678 points, 1769 rebounds, 599 assists, 171 blocks and as many as 56 wins over the last five years.
