Jewell Softball Drops Two on Day One of Lewis Dome Invite

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The William Jewell softball team fell 13-0 to open day one of the Lewis Dome Invite before dropping a close 2-1 decision to No. 14 ranked Grand Valley State. The Cardinals fall to 1-8 on the season. 

Game 1 (Wayne State 13, Jewell 0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wayne State opened the game with four runs in the opening frame to take an early lead. 
  • The Wildcats added seven runs on six hits in the third inning before adding two more in the fourth to take the game. 

KEY STATS
  • Jewell was limited to just one hit, off the bat of Sophia Lopez
  • Sydney Parra (0-4) took the loss, giving up seven earned on eight hits. 

Game 2 (#14 Grand Valley 2, Jewell 1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Grand Valley took the lead in the fourth inning on an unearned run. 
  • The Cardinals rallied in the top of the seventh as Mya Zavala walked and scored on an RBI single from Kenzie Stahl. In the bottom half of the frame, the Lakers got a walk off home run from Liberti Fair to win. 

KEY STATS
  • The Cardinals had five hits, from five different players while Lauren Ledbetter drew two walks and caught a runner stealing. 
  • Sammie Welt (0-2) was on the wrong end of a strong performance, allowing just a single earned run on seven hits and two strikeouts.
