Jewell Defeats Winona State in Extras to Close Dome Invite

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The William Jewell softball team scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning against Winona State to defeat the Warriors and close the Lewis Dome Invite. The Cardinals dropped an 8-0 decision to open the day and move to 2-9 on the year. 

Game 1 (Parkside 8, Jewell 0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Parkside did most of their damage in the first inning, scoring four runs on four hits. 
  • The Rangers added two runs in the third and two in the fifth to take the first game of the day. 

KEY STATS
Game 2 (Jewell 4, Winona State 1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Winona State jumped out on top early with an RBI single in the first inning. 
  • Jewell tied the game in the top of the sixth as Sabrina Olmo singled and scored on a double steal. 
  • In extra innings, neither team could convert in the eighth but Jewell got three runs on RBI from Lopez, Amanda Chung and Ella Hoffman to take their first lead. 
  • The Warriors put two on in the bottom half but a fly out ended the threat. 

KEY STATS
  • Jewell finished with seven hits, led by two from Lopez while Chung had a double. 
  • Aliyah Santiago (1-0) got her first win of the season, working all nine innings, allowing just a single earned run while fanning four. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals return home next week, beginning with a doubleheader against Davenport on Wednesday afternoon.
