Men's Basketball Posts 66-64 Win over Truman on Senior Day

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team put together a second half rally to pull out a 66-64 win over Truman State on Senior Day. The Cardinals move to 15-13 and 12-8 in the GLVC, heading into the postseason.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Truman State started strong, jumping out to an early double digit lead after a three with under 12 minutes to play. With the Cardinals trailing by 10 with just under six minutes to go in the opening half, Eli Wingert scored his third straight bucket to kick start a Jewell rally. Mason Alexand scored five straight points, followed by a three from Grant Stubbs before another layup from Wingert pulled the Cards within two, 32-30, at the intermission.
  • Stubbs scored early in the second half to quickly tie the game and it was a back-and-forth affair the remainder of the way. A Kobe McKinley traditional three point play made it a five point Cardinal lead but Truman came right back to lead 55-54, six minutes later.
  • With just over 90 seconds to go, Stubbs took things into his own hands scoring five points, including a deep three with 56 seconds on the clock to put Jewell up for good.

KEY STATS
  • McKinley led the offense with 20 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists an three blocks.
  • Stubbs added 13 points and a team high eight rebounds while Wingert scored a career best 12 points.
  • Jewell shot 54% from the field while holding the Bulldogs to just 38%.
