Jewell Hits Nine Threes But Falls at Maryville

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball hit nine three point field goals on Saturday to stay close throughout the game but a cold fourth quarter sank the Cardinals as they fell 72-57 at Maryville University. Jewell drops to 4-21 on the season and 2-13 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Emree Zars started things fast for the Cardinals, hitting two threes in the first two minutes before Maryville went on a 13-4 run to take a seven point advantage. Jewell quickly cut things back to two, 17-15, after a three from Elizabeth Ernsting late in the first quarter.
  • The Saints grew their lead to as many as 10 in the second quarter before Libby Arnold's three ended the run. Both teams then went cold as neither scored over the final 2:08 of the half to send it to the break with Jewell trailing 32-25.
  • The Cardinals were hot from long range in the third period to stay within striking distance as Bree Shannon hit two triples while Kate Hillyer and D'Asya Collier-Williams each had one. Skyler Boylan connected on two free throws with less than two seconds on the clock to make it a 52-45 game after three quarters.
  • Casi Waterhouse hit another three to open the fourth quarter for the Cardinals to get back within four but Jewell went just 3-for-13 the rest of the way as Maryville built separation to the final score.
