Jewell Baseball Defeats Missouri Western in Midweek Action

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The William Jewell baseball team scored six runs over the final three innings to win a 9-3 contest at Missouri Western on Wednesday night. The Cardinals move to 19-8 on the season with the victory. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell was the recipient of three straight two-out walks in the opening innings including one to Will Brant with the bases loaded to put the Cardinals on the board first. 
  • Cole Conner added a run for the Cards in the top of the third with a sac fly to score Dawson Tweet who had tripled to lead off the inning. 
  • Missouri Western scored a run in the fifth but Jewell got it back in the top of the sixth as Brant singled through the left side to score Jordan Phillips and make it 3-1. 
  • The Griffons plated two more on two hits and a Cardinal error and wild pitch to tie the game at three. 
  • Jake Wilcox led off the seventh with a double and scored on an error by the Missouri Western shortstop to put Jewell back in front. 
  • The Cardinals added one run in the eighth and four more insurance runs in the ninth on four hits and two MWSU errors to secure the six-run win. 

KEY STATS
  • Jewell finished with 11 hits, led by two each from Phillips, Epp and Jonah Sanford.
  • Brant led the team with three RBI while Tweet, Epp and Phillips each scored twice. 
  • Aiden Flood (3-0) earned the win, working two-third of an inning and striking out one batter. 
  • Levi Ebersoldt tossed 5.1 frames as the starter, allowing just two earned with three strikeouts. 

UP NEXT
The Cardinals are off this weekend but will return to action on Tuesday in a non-conference game against Emporia State at 6 p.m.
