LEBANON, Ill. - The William Jewell softball team dropped a pair on the road at McKendree on Saturday by final scores of 8-1 in five innings and 4-1. The Cardinals fall to 5-23 overall and 0-10 in conference play. 

GAME 1 (McKendree 8, Jewell 0)
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Bearcats took an early lead, putting a runner on third and scoring on a single to left field. 
• Both offenses were held in check four the next three frames, until McKendree plated seven on five hits and two Cardinal errors to open up an 8-0 lead. 
• Jewell put two runners on in the top of the fifth but three strikeouts ended the rally and the game. 

KEY STATS

• Sophia Lopez and Abby Vandiver had the Cardinals only two hits while Mya Zavala drew a walk. 
• Aliyah Santiago (2-3) took the loss, allowing eight runs but only one was earned, on seven hits. 
   

GAME 2 (McKendree 4, Jewell 1)
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals took advantage of some early McKendree miscues to put two runners on base in the opening frame. Lopez then singled up the middle to score Payton Totzke and put the Cardinals on top, 1-0. 
• In the bottom of the third, the Bearcats scored four times on three hits and an error. 
• Jewell put runners on in each of the final four innings but couldn't score. 

KEY STATS

• Jewell had five hits from five different players, including Totzke, Lopez, Zavala, Lauren Ledbetter and Sabrina Olmo. 
• Sammie Welt (2-7) was handed the loss, working four innings in relief, allowing two two runs, but none earned.
