LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Friday night, falling 5-0 and 7-1. The Cardinals drop to 5-33 on the season and 0-16 in conference place. 

GAME ONE (Lewis 5, Jewell 0)
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals loaded the bases in the first inning after a walk and hit by pitch, but came up empty after two strikeouts. 
• Lewis took the lead in the third frame on a two run home run from Jalyn Powell. 
• In the seventh, the Flyers extended their lead on an RBI single and another two-run home run. 

KEY STATS

• The Cardinals were limited to three hits in the opener, one each from Mya Zavala, Sophia Lopez and Abby Vandiver. 
• Sammie Welt (2-12) took the loss, allowing four earned runs over seven innings with six strikeouts. 

GAME TWO (Lewis 7, Jewell 1)
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Flyers broke out on top first in game two with a fielder's choice that scored two. 
• Jewell got on the board in the bottom of the second as Amanda Chung walked and advanced to third on a Vandiver double. Sydney Cure put a fly ball deep in the hole behind second base, allowing Chung to score. 
• Lewis scored five runs on four hits in the fifth to expand their lead to 7-1. 

KEY STATS

• Zavala and Vandiver led the Cardinals with two hits apiece. 
• Sydney Parra (0-11) suffered the loss, working 4.2 innings with six earned runs. Olivia Wood and Katie Heckman also tossed an inning in relief.
