INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The William Jewell baseball team hit four home runs, accounting for eight runs, on Saturday to defeat Indianapolis 13-6. The Cardinals dropped game two 13-9 to move to 21-15 on the season and 10-10 in conference play.
GAME ONE (Jewell 13, UIndy 6)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UIndy went on top first with a run in the first inning but the Cardinals came right back with three in the top half of the second. With the bases loaded, Drew Reed scored on a sac fly from Quincy Aldrich followed by a Jake Wilcox single to right, plating Kaden Owens. Jonah Sanford also scored on a wild pitch.
- A solo home run from Jordan Phillips in the top of the third expanded the lead to 4-1 but UIndy rallied with four runs on four hits in the bottom half to take the lead.
- In the fifth, Alex Epp and Will Brant reached base for Drew Reed who sent a ball over the left field wall to put Jewell back on top. Owens followed up with a solo shot of his own to push the advantage to 8-5.
- UIndy added a run in the bottom of the sixth and threatened more. Caden Wanless came on and got two flyouts to end the threat and preserve the Cardinal lead.
- The Cards added key insurance runs in the seventh inning as Sanford got an infield single to score Phillips followed by a double off the bat of Aldrich to score another for the Cards. Wilcox added the final nail with a three run home run to left.
KEY STATS
- The Cardinals finished with 14 hits, as Sanford, Owens, Reed, Phillips and Wilcox all had two.
- Wilcox led the squad with four RBI while Reed added three and Owens scored three times.
- Chandler Ashby (6-1) earned his GLVC-leading sixth win of the year, with five earned runs and five strikeouts over 5.1 innings of work.
- Wanless (1) picked up the save, working a nearly perfect 1.2 frames, allowing just a single base runner.
GAME TWO (UIndy 13, Jewell 9)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cale Blasi got things started in game two with an RBI single to left, scoring Phillips to put the Cards on top first.
- UIndy scored two in the bottom half of the second to take the lead and pushed it to five in the following inning, taking advantage of three Jewell miscues tand making it a 6-1 game.
- The Cardinals rallied in the fourth as Sanford and Blasi got into scoring position before back-to-back doubles from Wilcox and Dawson Tweet scored three. Phillips then blasted his second three-run home run of the day to put Jewell back in front, 7-6.
- In the bottom half, the 'Hounds got two home runs to go back on top and added three more in the fifth to lead 13-8.
- Back-to-back errors in the top of the ninth scored Epp but a strikeout ended the Jewell rally.
KEY STATS
- Epp led Jewell with three hits while Wilcox, Tweet, Phillips, Sanford and Blasi each had two.
- Phillips drove in three with Wilcox and Tweet adding two RBI.
- Jake Sawyer (3-2) took the loss, giving up six earned over three frames.

Jewell will return to Talley Stadium this week for a five-game home stand, beginning Tuesday with Northwest Missouri State. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
