TOPEKA, Kan. - The William Jewell volleyball opened the Washburn Invitational on Friday with a split in two matches, falling to Oklahoma Baptist and defeating Christian Brothers by identical 3-0 scores. The Cardinals move to 2-4 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- OBU jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the opening set of the day but Jewell quickly rallied with a 5-0 run to get back withing one. Trailing 21-18, the Cardinals rallied and got back-to-back kills from Bella LaPorta to pull within one, but a kill by Jenna West gave the Bison the opener, 25-23.
- Tied at 12 midway through set two, the Cardinals got three straight kills from Katy Garrison, Anna Godfredsen and Lily Goos to go in front 16-15. The rest of the way, both teams traded points, resulting in eight ties until OBU got consecutive kills from West to take the set, 26-24.
- Set three featured 18 ties as neither team could grap more than a three point lead. A Garrison kill made it 23-21 in favor of the Cardinals but OBU came right back to win five of the final six points and win 26-24.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- LaPorta led the offense with 14 kills to go with two aces.
- Dvorak posted seven blocks and two aces while Samantha Thompson had 15 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell came out with a vengeance in game two, grabbing a 10-2 lead and never looking back, taking the opener 25-9 behind nine kills from LaPorta.
- Set two started very similarly with the Cardinals holding an 8-0 lead, this time behind Katie Paine's serve. CBU made things interesting late, pulling within 23-21 but a service error and a block from Davorak and LaPorta ended the set, 25-21.
- The finale was more competitive in the early going. Tied at 19, the Cardinals won six of the final eight points to win 25-21 and earn the sweep.
