LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell men's soccer team came from behind to down the visiting Missouri S&T Miners on a chilly Friday night. Jewell, who was down by two goals in the 66', would rally back and capture the 3-2 victory within an 11 minute span. It was the fifth win of the year for the Cardinals who move to 5-6-3 on the year, with a 3-6-2 GLVC record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell would come out of halftime down 1-0, when nine minutes into the second half Zach Nichols would hit the crossbar on a penalty kick to remain down by a lone goal.
- After the Miners' second goal, Nichols redeemed himself as he cut the S&T lead to one with a goal in the 70'.
- Five minutes later, Alexis Ibarra sent a cross to defender Sage Smotherman who immediately headed the ball across the goal for evening score, 2-2.
- Shortly after, a foul by S&T gave Jewell a free kick from 30 yards out. Ibarra blasted his pass to the right side of the goal, where again Smotherman sent the ball off his dome to find the back of the net, giving Jewell the 3-2 lead with nine minutes left.
- The Cardinals held on for the 3-2 win.
