LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's soccer team took down GLVC opponent Quincy 4-1 on Friday night. The three-goal victory by Jewell is the largest margin of victory in the
Eddie Horn era and biggest since a 4-1 victory over then-member Wisconsin Parkside back on September 11, 2016.
The win sends the Cardinals to 3-4-2 on the year and secures the first conference win of the season to stand a 1-4-1 in the GLVC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A quick corner kick by Kaleb Fannin would give Jewell the early lead as Zach Nichols would find the back of the net for a 1-0 Cardinal lead in the 16'.
- Less than two minutes later Jewell would score again, this time off of the right foot of Brian Vidal who took in the over-the shoulder-assist from Walker Bond and blasted it past the keeper to go up 2-0.
- Jewell was not done however, a penalty kick for Jewell would send Nichols to the box, where he would connect on his second goal of the evening and give the Cardinals the comfortable 3-0 halftime lead.
- Quincy would answer back with a score early in the second half, but a penalty kick taken by Henry Staebell would provide insurance for the home team as Jewell would secure the 4-1 conference win.
KEY STATS
- Nichols would lead the way with five shots and two goals, his first career multi-goal game in a Cardinals uniform.
- Jewell's defense made it easy for Umberto DiCarlo who would only have to record one save through 90 minutes.
- Tristan Barroeta would play 28 minutes all coming off the bench and record a pair of shots, both on goal.
