LIBERTY, Mo. – With four seconds left in the game, a penalty kick from
Zach Nichols would would have William Jewell avoid a lone goal loss and instead escape their Sunday afternoon match with the Upper Iowa Peacocks with a 2-2 tie. It would be the third tie on the year for Jewell, as they sit at 3-4-3 and 1-4-2 in conference games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell's offense came out aggressive, with a pair of shots in the first three minutes from Henry Staeball and Zach Nichols though neither would find the back of the goal.
- The Peacocks would score in the 23' to take the lead, while later in the half shots on goal from Kevin Madrid and Dillon Byrkit would force Upper Iowa to tighten their defense but teams would go into halftime at 1-0 in favor of the Peacocks.
- After another Upper Iowa goal, Tristan Barroeta would take the assist off the right foot of Walker Bond in the 66' and send it into the net for cut the lead to 2-1.
- With four seconds left a handball by Upper Iowa in the penalty box would set up a penalty kick for Jewell. Nichols ,coming off of a two goal performance on Friday, would blast it past the keeper's left side to secure a 2-2 tie, avoiding what would have been the Cardinal's fifth loss on the year.
KEY STATS
- Umberto DiCarlo would collect three saves in the tie.
- Nichols would score his third goal in two games, the transfer now sits at four goals on the season.
- Barroeta's second half goal would be his first in a Cardinal uniform in his 20th career appearance.
