LIBERTY, Mo. – The night after William Jewell inducted the 2012 Women's Soccer team into the Jewell Athletics Hall of Fame, a team who adamantly spoke about their rivalries with Quincy University, the current women's squad for Jewell downed the Hawks, 3-2 in a back-and-forth affair.
With the one goal win, Jewell moves to 3-6 on the regular season and 2-4 within the GLVC after picking up their first conference victory a week ago Friday against Lewis.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams went through the first half relatively quiet, combining for only five shots on goal until the 42' when Lauren Price would come off the bench and find the top right corner of the net, with the assist from Sophia Giuliano, from the opposite side of the field from 20 yards out to give Jewell the 1-0 lead going into halftime.
- Shortly into the second half, Quincy would net a goal to tie it at one apiece.
- At the 67' mark, Lux Sands would send a powerful shot on goal that would be batted by the goal in the bottom left corner, Sands would immediately knock the rebound past the keeper to retake the lead 2-1.
- Quincy would continue to put shots up and would tie it 2-2 with under 10 minutes left to play.
- A minuet and a half after Quincy's goal, Riley Frasure-Smith and Sands would travel half the length of the field and pass the ball back and forth until Frasure-Smith was able to set up Sands for her second, and game-winning, goal of the game as Jewell would hold on to secure the 3-2 conference win.
