LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell women's soccer team lost their match against Upper Iowa University 3-2 Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals would go into halftime with the one goal lead but would not be able to hold on. Jewell slips to 3-7 on the year and 2-5 within GLVC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Peacocks would get on the board first with a goal in the second minute to take the early lead.
- Seven minutes later Jewell tied it up courtesy of a goal from Riley Frasure-Smith. The junior would take the headed assist from Lux Sands from across the box for the quick-fire goal into the left side of the net.
- Teams would exchange shots until the 38' when freshman Dilyn Davies would send a perfectly-placed rainbow shot into the wind from 30 yards out that would slip above the Peacocks' goalie giving Jewell the 2-1 lead going into halftime.
- Upper Iowa would score a pair of goals in the first seven minutes of the second half to take the one goal lead. Jewell would only muster one shot on goal through the remainder of the half as the Peacocks would get the win.
KEY STATS
- Emily Glassman would get the start collecting eight saves, which ties her season high.
- Frasure-Smith would clock her first goal of the year, the second of her career. Davies' goal late in the first half was the first of the freshman's career.
