LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell volleyball team fell 3-0 to No. 18 ranked Quincy University on Friday night to drop to 7-18 on the season and 1-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jewell started strong, opening up a 15-7 lead after five kills an two blocks combined from Bella LaPorta and Katy Garrison. The Hawks used a 9-0 run, led by three aces from Luna Van Baars to go back in front, 16-15. The teams traded points the rest of the way as Quincy finished off a 25-23 opener. 
• The Cardinals fell into an early 13-4 hole in the second set but rallied late to pull within six after a Madison Grekstas kill, but an attack error gave Quincy a 25-18 win. 
• After trading points in the early going of set three, the Hawks used a 13-6 run to separate themselves on the way to winning 25-16. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Jewell hit .260 on the night while out blocking the Hawks 9-5, led by six from Garrison and three each by LaPorta and Emma Lea Benney. 
• LaPorta paced the offense with 11 kills while Caroline Beckmann finished with nine kills on 13 attacks for a .615 attack percentage. 
• Alexis Nunn had 11 digs with Samantha Thompson picking up a team high 15 assists. 

UP NEXT
Jewell will close out the home portion of the schedule on Saturday as they host Illinois Springfield at 3 p.m. The Cardinals will recognize five seniors prior to first serve.
