GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The William Jewell men's basketball team overcame cold shooting early to down Davenport 55-45 on Saturday afternoon to move to 2-0 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals scored the first seven points of the game but Davenport rallied to knot things up at nine. With Jewell leading 15-11 with over eight minutes remaining, both offenses went silent, going over five minutes without a field goal between them. Bryce Mitchell hit a three with two seconds remaining to give the Cards a 20-14 advantage at the intermission. 
• The Jewell offense found its groove early in the second half, expanding their lead to 17 after a bucket from Bradley Lightbourne with just under 11 to play. Davenport cut in to the lead late, getting as close as eight with two minutes to go but a layup from Eli Wingert put things out of reach.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Jewell held their opponent to just 45 points, the lowest since December 2012 and allowed just a 33% clip from the field and 20% from long range. 
• Jordan Jermain led the Cardinals with 20 points with Luke Jordan adding a career high 11. 
• Wingert finished with a team high 13 rebounds while Mitchell grabbed eight.
