Cardinals Drop Final Non-Conference Game at Newman

WICHITA, Kan. - The William Jewell men's basketball team held Newman University to their lowest point total of the season on Tuesday evening, but fell 63-55 to close out the non-conference schedule. Jewell drops to 4-7 on the season heading into the break.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The offense started cold, as the Cardinals fell into a very early 11-2 hole before Jordan Jermain hit the first of his four first half triples to get things going. An offensive rebound by Kaleb Becker led to a dunk from Jason Thirdkill, Jr. to get Jewell back within one but things went cold again, as the Cards went more than five minutes without scoring. Jermain scored 10 points over the final six minutes to keep Jewell close, trailing by single digits at the half, 34-26.
  • The Cardinals came out of the intermission with a 10-1 run, capped by a bucket from Becker to grab their first lead of the night 36-35. The Jets went back in front by six midway through the second half and held on down the stretch, hitting 5-of-6 free throws to win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jermain finished with a game high 26 points, while Thirdkill, Jr. grabbed a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds.
  • The Cardinals pulled down nine offensive rebounds that led to 10 points.
  • Jewell shot 32% from the floor and was 7-of-33 from the three point line.
