KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After falling into an early hole, the William Jewell women's basketball got back within single digits in the second half but fell short, falling 73-62 on Thursday night at Rockhurst University. The Cardinals drop to 2-5 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell suffered through cold shooting to open the game, going just 2-of-15 in the first 10 minutes, falling behind 16-5.
- The offense improved in the second quarter but Rockhurst finished the half on a 19-12 run to lead 40-25 at the break.
- The Cardinals won the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 17-14. Trailing 52-34, a traditional three point play by Kate Hillyer kick started a 13-2 run as Jewell held the Hawks scoreless for nearly three minutes.
- A three from Kiersten Hauck cut the deficit to just seven, forcing a Rockhurst timeout, after which the Hawks went on a quick 8-0 run to expand their lead back 15. The Cardinals got within eight late in the fourth quarter but could get no closer.

- Hillyer led the Cardinals with 19 points with Hauck and Morgan Ives adding 10 each.
- Ella Bockenstedt grabbed a tea high five rebounds while Maja Komaszynska had three steals.
- Jewell forced 20 turnovers, leading to 20 points and shot 36% from the field.
