MARYVILLE, Mo. - The William Jewell track and field teams opened the 2024-2025 indoor season on Saturday at the annual Mel Tjeerdsma Classic, hosted by Northwest Missouri State. Three Cardinals reached NCAA-II provisional qualifying marks in the opener, including
Cydney Banks,
Caroline Mayes, and
Bradan Dickinson.
Banks and Dickinson each set new records in the weight throw becoming the first on both the men's and women's side to break 18 meters as Banks hit 18.29, to also set a meet record, with Dickinson breaking his own record by more than a meter at 18.26. Additionally, Mayes also her broke her own record in the women's 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.55 in the finals.Â
WOMEN'S EVENTS
- 60 meters: Mayes was the Cardinals top finisher at 12th with a time of 7.88 while freshman Mia Ryan crossed at 8.54.
- 60-meter hurdles: Mayes hit an NCAA-II provo mark twice, first in the prelims at 8.73 before resetting the school record with a time of 8.55 to win the event.Â
- 200 meters: Four Cardinals appeared in the event, led by Mayes at 26.45 to finish 16th.Â
- 300 meters: Newcomers Caprice Robertson and Kennedy Vernon joined the top-10 all-time performers list with times of 44.26 and 48.67, respectively, to finish eighth and 14th.Â
- 400 meters: Leila Moore finished 10th to lead three Cardinals in the field with a career best time of 1:03.96. Camryn Thomas (1:05.03) and Morgan Mayo (1:10.19) also appeared.Â
- 5000 meters: Lottie Vickers placed 19th overall at 21:44.20.
- High Jump: Lillian Bogard tied her career best mark at 1.57 meters to place third.Â
- Pole: Sophia McCune was fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 2.70 meters.Â
- Shot put: Banks set a meet record and hit an NCAA provisional mark with a throw of 14.38 meters to finish third.Â
- Weight: Banks set another meet record in the weight throw and became the first Cardinal to break 18 meters at 18.29 to finish second and hit a provo mark. Bobbie Pollard improved her No. 6 all-time mark to 16.13 meters.Â
- 4x400 relay: Thomas, Moore, Mayo, and Robertson combined to place 10th with a time of 4:24.61.Â
MEN'S EVENTS
- 60 meters: Five Cardinals appeared in the field, led by Daniel Williams' 11th place finish at 7.04, which ranks fifth best all-time.Â
- 60 meter hurdles: Adam Hoffman set a new career best at 9.73 to finish 18th overall.Â
- 200 meters: Konnor Poynter led six Cardinals in the event, with a time of 22.52, seventh all-time and 14th in the field. Connor Hull was 18th, crossing the line in 22.64.Â
- 300 meters: Kain Sourbeer placed 17th with a mark of 38.06.Â
- 400 meters: Connor Hull won the event to lead three Cardinals in the top-10 as Poynter finished fifth (50.94) and Williams eighth (51.42).
- 600 yards: Sincere Davis posted the fifth best time in program history at 1:15.62 to place ninth while Justin Edwards crossed at 1:22.74.Â
- 1000 meters: Davis finished 13th, coming across the line at 2:37.79.Â
- Pole Vault: Lukas LePage posted a 4.60 meter vault to win the event and place 10th all-time, becoming the first Cardinal since 2002 to join the performances list.Â
- Shot put: Dickinson placed eighth to lead three Cardinals with a mark of 14.49 meters. Keonne Gladden (12.16 meters) and Korbin Dow (10.86 meters) were 21st and 32nd, respectively.Â
- Weight throw: Dickinson picked up an NCAA provo on his way to winning the event with a school record mark of 18.26 meters.Â
- 4x400 relay: The team of Poynter, Williams, Davis, and Hull finished third with a time of 3:24.96.Â
UP NEXT
The Cardinals are off until after the winter break and will return to Maryville for the Coach Richard Alsup Open on January 18 to open the second semester.Â
