SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The William Jewell women's basketball team dropped an 85-65 decision at Illinois Springfield to fall to 5-15 overall and 3-11 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinal offense started slow, going four minutes without a score but quickly got back in things as a free throw from Libby Arnold made it a 15-12 game, in favor of UIS. 
• The Prairie Stars went on an 20-3 run to open up a 17 point advantage at the start of the the second quarter. Ayden Shannon scored four straight points to ignite a 12-2 run by the Cardinals to pull within seven at the break, 37-30. 
• Emree Zars' score to open the second half got the Cardinals within five but UIS responded with a 19-7 run to expand their advantage back to 17 with 2:45 to go in the period. 
• The Starts pushed their led to as many as 21 in the finale quarter to earn the win.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Kate Hillyer led the Cardinals with 16 points on 5-of-8 from the floor. 
• Shannon added 12 points and four steals while Caitlin Behling had a career high 11 points. 
• Jewell shot 41% from the floor but were just 18% from long range.
