LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's lacrosse team played even with Missouri Western in the second half on Friday night but a big opening quarter from the visitors gave them a 17-5 win. The Cardinals drop to 1-2 on the season while the Griffons move to 3-0. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Kaylee Gross scored the first goal of the game just over 90 seconds in but Missouri Western would outscore the Cardinals 13-0 over the next 28 minutes to take a commanding 13-1 lead into the break. 
• After the Griffons expanded their advantage to 15-1, Olivia Fornelli broke away for a goal late in the third period. 
• In the fourth quarter, Addison Devers scored twice, including once with the Cardinals playing a woman down. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Devers finished with a team high three goals on five shots, all of which were on goal. 
• Gross and Jordan Wynn each had an assist. 
• Haydin Gibson played all 60 minutes in goal in posted 11 saves.
