LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team rallied from down 15 to tie things up in the fourth quarter against Maryville on Thursday night but ultimately fell 79-72. The Cardinals drop to 5-22 overall and 3-18 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tied at 13 midway through the first quarter, Maryville went on a 15-3 run top go on top by a dozen. The Cardinals scored the final seven points of the half, capped by a three from Emree Zars to trail 37-29 at the break.
  • Trailing by 10 early in the third quarter, Jewell rallied as four different players scored during an 11-2 run to pull the Cards within one, 46-45, with under three to go in the period. The Saints responded with a 10-0 run to push their lead back to 11 headed into the final frame.
  • In the fourth quarter, Jewell rallied with a 13-2 run to knot things up at 58 after a traditional three point play by Zars. Maryville went back on top eight with just over a minute to go but a bucket from Kate Hillyer and a steal from Ayden Shannon led to a three point by Bree Shannon that once again made it a one possession game, 75-72, with 35 seconds on the clock. Jewell was forced to foul in the final seconds as Maryville connected on all four free throws.
