LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Saturday, dropping a pair to Missouri-St. Louis. The Cardinals who fall to 16-10 overall, fell 4-0 in game one and 14-5 in game two.
GAME ONE - UMSL 4, Jewell 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMSL got on the board early in the opener, scoring three runs in the top of the second inning. The Tritons added a run in the following frame to lead 4-0.
- The Cardinals put two on in the fifth inning but a fielder's choice and and fly out ended the rally.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell was limited to three hits, from Addie Bell, Sabrina Olmo and Amanda Chung who had a double.
- Avrey Reynols (8-5) took the loss, allowing three earned runs over seven frames.
GAME TWO - UMSL 14, Jewell 4
- UMSL scored five runs in the first two innings to take a commanding early lead.
- The Cardinals got three back in the bottom of the second as Alexa Almejo led off with a solo home run to put Jewell on the board. After Chung singled, Tori Woodard launched a long ball of her own to left field to cut the deficit to 5-3.
- The Tritons got one run in each of the next three innings.
- Kenzie Stahl reached base on an RBI fielder's choice in the sixth to score Chung but UMSL added five more in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 10.
- Chung continued her strong day with an RBI double in the bottom half to score Bell.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Chung and Bell each finished wtih two hits while Sophia Lopez also had a double.
- Sydney Cure reached base three times via a base on balls.
- Olivia Wood (5-3) suffered the loss, working the first 1.1 innings.

Jewell returns to action on Sunday as they take on McKendree University in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
