Cardinals Walk Off in Game One to Split with McKendree

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team rebounded on Sunday to earn a split with McKendree, taking game one 3-2 before falling 3-0 in game two. The Cardinals move to 17-11 overall and 1-3 in conference play. 

GAME ONE: Jewell 3, McKendree 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McKendree scored first in the top of the third but the Cardinals came back in the bottom half as Sabrina Olmo walked and scored on an error to tie the game. 
  • Olmo led off the fifth frame with a solo home run, her second of the year, to give Jewell a 2-1 lead. 
  • Down to their last out, the Bearcats rallied for an RBI single to knot the score at two. 
  • The Cardinals loaded the bases with three free passes in the bottom of the seventh for Tori Woodard, whose slow roller to second base resulted in a late throw to the plate allowing Olmo to score the winning run.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell out hit the Bearcats 7-3, led by two a piece from Addie Bell and Olmo who also scored twice. 
  • Olivia Wood (6-3) earned the complete game win, striking out four batters and allowing just three hits. 

GAME TWO: McKendree 3, Jewell 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McKendree got on the board with two runs on two hits and a Cardinal miscue in the top of the third before adding another in the fourth. 
  • The Cardinals put a runner in scoring position twice but could not score. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell was limited to just one hit, a double by Olmo. 
  • Avrey Reynolds (8-6) took the loss, allowing two earned runs over seven frames. 

UP NEXT
Jewell takes a brief break from Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Wednesday as they host Parkside at 3 p.m.
