Cardinals Take Game One to Split Doubleheader with Parkside

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team put together a seventh inning rally in game two of a doubleheader on Wednesday against Parkside but came up just short, falling 4-3, after taking the opener 5-3. The Cardinals move to 18-12 on the season.

GAME ONE: Jewell 5, Parkside 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jewell scored three early runs to grab the lead in the first inning. Kenzie Stahl walked before Sabrina Olmo singled and stole second to put two in scoring position. The former scored on a ground out before back-to-back base hits from Tori Woodard and Amanda Chung plated two more.
  • After Parkside got one run back, Jewell added on with a two RBI double to left center off the bat of Chung to make it 5-1.
  • The Rangers scored one in the fourth and one in the fifth but the Cardinals shut the door in the final frames.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell totaled nine hits, with two from Olmo and Chung, who also drove in three runs.
  • Avrey Reynold (9-6) recorded her ninth win in a complete game effort with three strikeouts.

GAME TWO: Parkside 4, Jewell 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Parkside scored one in the first and two more in the third to take an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Cardinals got on the board in the fourth frame as consecutive first pitch doubles from Alexa Almejo and Chung scored the first run. Sydney Cure then singled up the middle to score another and make it 3-2.
  • In the top of the seventh, the Rangers added a run to push their lead to two. In the bottom half, Jewell rallied as Stahl reached on an error and advanced to third with an Olmo base hit. Addie Bell drove in a run with a sac fly to pull the Cards within one but a strikeout and a popup ended the rally.
