Fitzgerald Fans Seven In Complete Game Victory Over Peacocks

LIBERTY, Mo. – The William Jewell baseball team let Kyle Fitzgerald go the distance Tuesday afternoon, on the way to a 10-3 victory over Upper Iowa University. The win marks the second Tuesday in a row that Jewell beat the Peacocks after a 10-9, 11 inning win last Tuesday in Fayette, Iowa. The win pushes the Cardinals to 11-7 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals began the scoring in the first when Jordan Phillips reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Evan Jilbert from third.
  • In the second, Jewell plated a pair off a Jilbert double to left center field that put the Cards up 3-0.
  • Jewell continued their score-by-inning in the third. With two men on, catcher Ben Click hit a deep fly ball to right field that kept carrying and eventually landed on the far side of the fence for his second homer of the year to make it 6-0.
  • After the Peacocks pulled within four, Cale Blasi hit a sac fly to left to plate one.
  • Four batters later with the bases loaded, Phillips doubled to deep right center clearing the bases to put Jewell up 10-2.
  • Upper Iowa would score a lone run in the ninth, falling short of any comeback.
