LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team swept Central Missouri on Tuesday afternoon by scores of 2-0 and 4-3 to improve to 12-8 and push their win streak to seven. Freshman pitcher
Avrey Reynolds put up eight scoreless innings on the day, earning the win in game one and a save in game two.
GAME ONE: Jewell 2, Central Missouri 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After three-plus scoreless frames, Alexa Almejo led of the bottom of the fourth with a double to right center. With two outs a dropped fly ball by the Jennies center fielder allowed Almejo to cross the plate and put the Cards on the board.Â
- Another dropped ball in the sixth pushed Addie Bell across the plate after she placed a triple into left center.Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals got five hits as a team from Lexi Lopez, Ella Hoffman and Kenzie Stahl, in addition to Bell and Almejo.Â
- Reynolds (6-4) tossed the complete game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out four.Â
GAME TWO: Jewell 4, Central Missouri 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell took advantage of two free passes and two timely wild pitches to take a quick 2-0 lead. Almejo singled to left to score Bell and add another run for the Cardinals.Â
- Sydney Cure doubled in the second followed by a walk to Stahl to put two on. Another wild pitch that ended in dead ball territory allowed Cure to score and make it 4-0.
- Central Missouri scored two in the top of the fifth and another in the sixth to pull within one.
- In the top of the seventh the Jennies loaded the bases with two outs but Reynolds got a key strikeout to end the game.Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bell, Almejo, Hoffman, Stahl and Cure each had one hit for the Cardinals with Lopez drawing two walks.Â
- Sydney Parra (2-1) earned the win in relief while Reynolds grabbed her second save of the season with a scoreless seventh inning.Â
