Softball Continues Hot Streak with Sweep of Sioux Falls

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team ran their win streak to nine on Saturday with a sweep of Sioux Falls. The Cardinals, who improve to 14-8 overall, took game one 5-4 in eight innings and game two, 6-1.

GAME ONE: Jewell 5, Sioux Falls 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The visitors took an early 2-0 lead, scoring once in the first and once in the second.
  • Jewell plated three in the bottom half of the second on three consecutive doubles followed by an RBI base hit from Lexi Lopez to grab a 3-2 lead.
  • A solo home run tied things up in the top of the fifth where the score remained through the seventh frame to force extras.
  • With international tie breaker rules in effect, the Cougars got a sac fly to take a 4-3 lead but the Cardinals came right back with a Sophia Lopez single to right field.
  • With two on and one out, Sydney Cure rounded third on a ground out where she got stuck in a pickle but a dropped ball allowed her to slide into home safely and give Jewell the 5-4 win.
