LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team put together a doubleheader sweep of Quincy University on Sunday afternoon, taking game one 4-3 and game two by a final of 7-2. The Cardinals improve to 22-24 overall and 5-15 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
GAME ONE: Jewell 4, Quincy 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Quincy got the scoring started in game one with an RBI double in the second inning and added two more in the third on two hits and a Cardinal miscue to take a 3-0 lead.
- Kenzie Stahl led off the bottom half of the third with a base hit before Sabrina Olmo doubled to bring around the first Jewell run.
- In the fourth, it was again Olmo who did the damage putting a two RBI double into right field to knot things up at 3-3.
- With two runners on in the fifth, Tori Woodard singled to score Addie Bell and give the Cardinals the lead for good.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell out hit the Hawks 10-7, led by two a piece from Olmo, Bell and Woodard.
- Olmo drove in three runs with two extra base hits.
- Avrey Reynolds (12-11) earned the win in relief, working five frames while striking out three.
GAME TWO: Jewell 7, Quincy 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell got off to a fast start in the nightcap as Bell and Amanda Chung picked up back-to-back RBI singles to plate two. Abby Vandiver then singled to center to score Chung and make it an early 3-0 Cardinal advantage.
- Quincy got on the board in the fifth with a sac fly but Jewell added two more in the bottom half on RBI base knocks from Chung and Woodard.
- A wild pitch allowed a Hawk runner to score in the sixth but the Cards put things away in their half of the frame with RBI singles from Bell and Alexa Almejo.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell posted a season high 13 hits in game two, led by three from Olmo while Bell, Chung and Stahl each had two.
- Olivia Wood earned the win (8-7) with a five inning stint, allowing just a single earned run.
UP NEXT
Jewell will host Newman University on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play to close th home portion of the schedule.
