Truman Takes Two from Cardinals

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The William Jewell softball team suffered two losses at the hands of Truman State on Sunday afternoon, falling 9-4 and 5-1. The Cardinals drop to 19-23 overall and 2-14 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

GAME ONE: Truman State 9, Jewell 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Truman grabbed the early lead scoring on a wild pitch in the second before the Cardinals came back with two in the third on an Amanda Chung two RBI double. 
  • The Bulldogs regained the lead with four runs in the bottom half of the third, three in the fourth and one more in the sixth.
  • Jewell put together a seventh inning as Chung singled to left scoring Sabrina Olmo. Alexa Almejo crossed the plate on a ground out to make it 9-4 but a line out ended the game.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jewell put together 10 hits, led by three from Chung, while Olmo and Almejo had two each with the Chung also in three runs. 
  • Avrey Reynolds (9-11) took the loss, allowing two earned runs over three innings with two strikeouts. 

GAME TWO: Truman State 5, Jewell 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Truman scored first again in game two, plating three in the first frame and adding two more in the following inning for a quick 5-0 lead. 
  • Addie Bell got the Cardinals on the board in the fourth with an RBI double to right, scoring Olmo. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Olmo led the Cardinals with two hits in the nightcap. 
  • Olivia Wood (7-7) received the loss in the circle, allowing three earned on eight hits over two innings. 

UP NEXT
Jewell returns home next weekend as they host Illinois Springfield on Saturday for Senior Day.
