Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cardinals Capitalize On Midweek Matchup With Spires

LIBERTY, Mo.
- The William Jewell men's soccer team won their second consecutive game Wednesday night, 2-0 over the University of Saint Mary (Kan.). The win puts Jewell at 2-0-1 headed into conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams were held out of the net in the first half, combing for seven shots and one Saint Mary corner kick.
  • Jewell's tempo coming out of the intermission, with last season's lead scorer Alexis Ibarra finding the back of the net on a shot that rocketed down from the top of the net after going in. Zach Nichols would try to add to the lead in the 51', but his shot would be denied by the right post.
  • Nine minutes later playing with a 1-0 lead, fellow junior Henry Staebell would take a cross from Nichols on the left side of the net and blast it past the keeper to give Jewell the 2-0 lead.
  • Both teams would allow their offenses to shoot the ball as the second half wore on, totaling eight for Saint Mary and nine for the Cardinals, but no more would find the goal.

KEY STATS

  • Staebell would lead the team with three shots, all of which came on goal.
  • 10 reserves would see playing time for six minutes or more.
