CARDINAL NOTES

  • Keaundre McCullough is the reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for a school and conference record 402 yards in week 0 against Fort Lewis College. The redshirt senior had three runs of at least 65 yards, including tying the league record with a 93-yard rush. He scored all five touchdowns in the Cardinals 35-20 win. The redshirt senior is more than halfway to his season total of 731 rushing yards from all of last season.
  • With the win at Fort Lewis, the Cardinals earned back-to-back season opening victories for the first time since 2006-2007 when they defeated Mid-America Nazrene and Evangel University, respectively. Jewell will be searching for their first consecutive wins since winning three in a row in 2015.

  • Jewell and Kenutcky Wesleyan have met six times since 2011, with the Cardinals taking four of those meetings. The last two match ups have each come down to the final minute as the Cardinals got a 24-17 win at home in 2022 before the Panthers came back last year and rallied in the fourth quarter with a 78-yard touchdown pass with 35 seconds remaining to win 41-34.
  • Adam Callahan led the Cardinal defense in week 0 with six tackles while grabbing his first career interception. Rookies Caleb Donnell and Max McKenzie were also efficient for the defense accounting for 10 combined tackles.
  • The defense got allowed 374 yards of total offense in their opener but got to the ball for loss six times for a total of 20 yards, led by Collin Williams' two, including a sack. Javion Macias and Derrick Von Hubbard also recorded sacks for the Cardinals at Fort Lewis.
  • Josh Click was a perfect 5-for-5 on point after attempts in week 0. After missing the 2022 season due to injury and just two attempts a year ago, he is back to full time use and is 23-of-24 for his career, having not missed since October 16, 2021. His 95.8% career clip is currently third best by a Cardinal in the NCAA era.
  • In his first career start, Cameron Vanzant moved the offense to the tune of 488 total yards. The rookie quarterback was 8-for-15 through the air for 75 yards and one interception.
