Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cardinals Open Up GLVC Action With 2-0 Loss

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's soccer team lost 2-0 in their GLVC opener to the University of Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars. The loss marks the third in a row for Jewell, who now sits at 1-3 on the year and 0-1 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A header from the Prairie Stars a minute into the game would give them the quick 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would answer back over the next 12 minutes with three shots, with a pair of shots on goal from Riley Frasure-Smith
  • Lux Sands almost tied it up with her shot in the 26', but it would be forcefully denied by the left post to keep the score at 1-0.
  • Jewell would come out of the halftime break still trailing by one, Frasure-Smith would put up another two shots on goal and Sydney Robinson would get into the action as well before a 73' goal from Illinois Springfield extended the lead to two.
  • The Cardinals would get six shots up in the final 15 minutes, including three from Kim Munoz, but would be unable to recover from the deficit.

KEY STATS
  • Emily Glassman would get the start in the net, collecting three saves compared to the eight that Illinois Springfield was forced to make.
  • Frasure-Smith would have six shots, besting her previous personal best of five – also against the Prairie Stars back in 2022.
  • Jewell would have 15 total shots, the most for the program since playing Illinois Springfield last season (16).
