LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The William Jewell men's soccer team finished with a 1-1 tie in their 2024 season opener in Lakewood, Colorado on Saturday afternoon. The match against Colorado Christian University marks the first of two games in Colorado this weekend for the Cardinals. Jewell is 0-0-1 after the tie.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• 18' into the game Zach Nichols would have the first shot on the season for the Cardinals but it was stopped by the keeper in the bottom left corner.
• Cardinal freshman keeper Umberto DiCarlo would stop the ensuing four shots from the Cougars in the half, going into the intermission with a 0-0 score. 
• Colorado Christian would get on the board two minutes into the second half, followed by a trio of Cardinal shots that would come up empty. In the 67' sophomore Brian Vidal would find the back of the net scoring the first Cardinal goal of the year, tying the game at 1-1.
• Teams would trade shots and corner kicks for the remaining of the game but would leave the field with a 1-1 tie.

 
KEY STATS

• In all, DiCarlo would have four saves on the five Cougar shots on goal.
• Nichols would led the team with three shots, with freshman Kaleb Fannin being one behind him with two shots.
