LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The William Jewell men's soccer team captured their first win of the season Sunday, recording a 2-1 victory over South Dakota Mines in Lakewood, Colorado. The win is the first since October 2022 for the program, and places them at 1-0-1 at the end of their season-opening roadtrip.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mines struck first seven minutes into the game to go up 1-0. Four minutes later Kaleb Fannin scored his first collegiate goal to knot the game up at one apiece, the freshman was assisted by Brian Vidal.
- The Cardinal offense was not done in the opening half, adding a goal in the 23' by Zach Nichols, also with an assist by Fannin – his third point of the day. Jewell would take the 2-1 lead into halftime.
- Jewell would continue taking shots the entire second half, racking up seven shots by four different Cardinals, including three more by Zach Nichols, while not allowing a goal by the Rockers to take the victory.
KEY STATS
- Nichols would take a team-high five shots in the game, including three on goal.
- Walker Bond would take two shots, both on goal.
- Umberto DiCarlo would have five saves on six shots.
