LIBERTY, Mo. - Fifth year senior guard
Jordan Jermain was sensational on Saturday afternoon, enjoying a career day and setting multiple single game records as the Cardinals fell 78-76 in overtime to Indianapolis. The Cardinals drop to 5-11 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jermain hit three triples in the first 10 minutes to put the Cardinals on top by five in the early going. UIndy cut things down to two after a free throw from Tucker Tornatta but Jermain scored eight points to lead an 11-2 run to push the Jewell advantage to double digits. The Greyhounds got back within five late and trailed 35-30 at the break.
- The Cardinals expanded their lead to eight in the early moments of the second half to force a quick UIndy timeout after which the Greyhounds went on a 13-6 run to cut the deficit to just one. Jermain and Bradley Lightbourne took over during the next five minutes to push the lead back to nine but UIndy forced a 13 point swing to go on top 67-65. The Hounds fouled Jermain on a three-point attempt with 1.1 ticks on the clock as the senior made 2-of-3 to force overtime.
- Jermain hit three straight three pointers to open the extra period but each was answered by UIndy who got a critical free throw from Grant Disken to go on top by two. The Cardinals got a good look at the buzzer but the shot fell short.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jermain tied the NCAA era single game scoring record with 45 points while breaking the single game record for three point field goals with nine. He also added a team high eight rebounds while playing all 45 minutes. Additionally, he moved into sixth all-time in career scoring, second in three point field goals, and ninth in free throws during the game.
- Luke Jordan also played in 45 minutes, collecting a dozen points while Lightbourne added 10.
- Jewell forced 13 turnovers that led to 19 points but allowed 15 second chance points.
