LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell women's basketball team broke away from Indianapolis in the second half and rolled to a 58-46 win, to move to 4-10 on the season and 2-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the Cardinals trailing by four early, Paris Opelt came off the bench to score seven straight to give Jewell their first lead, 9-8, after 10 minutes.
- Consecutive threes from Ayden Shannon, Morgan Ives, and Kate Hillyer helped sparked 17-1 run by Jewell to close the first half. The Cardinals held the Greyhounds to just 13 points, leading 26-13 at the break.
- Kirsten Hauck got the second half started with a traditional three point play as the teams traded points over the next seven minutes. With under three to go in the third period, Ives hit another triple followed by two Shannon free throws to give the Cardinals their largest lead of the day at 42-22.
- UIndy chipped away at the lead throughout the fourth quarter, getting as close as 10 with one minute to go but Karlee Holland's free throws brought the score to the final of 58-46.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jewell was balanced offensively with six different players scoring at least five points led by Shannon and Opelt with a dozen a piece.
- Ella Bockenstedt added eight points, seven rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
- Jewell shot 37% from the floor and were 17-of-25 from the free throw line while holding the Greyhounds to 35%, including 0-for-13 from three point land.
- The victory snaps five-game losing streak to UIndy, with the last win coming in November 2020.

The Cardinals will have another quick turnaround, playing their third game in six days, on Monday as they host Missouri S&T in a postponed contest from January 5.
