LIBERTY, Mo. - William Jewell junior guard
Ayden Shannon became the 22nd member of the women's basketball 1,000 point club on Monday afternoon as the Cardinals fell 63-55 to Missouri S&T. Jewell is now 4-11 overall and 2-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Shannon got off to a strong start scoring eight early points as Jewell grabbed an early three point lead. Back-to-back threes by Morgan Ives and Caitlin Behling made it a 24-18 Cardinal advantage after one quarter.
- Jewell held a small lead throughout most of the second period before the Miners went on a 4-0 run to tie things up at 28-all. Bree Shannon scored to close the half and put the Cards on top 30-28.
- Jewell went cold offensively in the third period, going 5-for-20 from the field as Missouri S&T built a six point lead, 49-43.
- The Cardinals battled in the fourth quarter but each time the Miners responded to keep their advantage. The visitors converted on four free throws over the final 30 seconds to secure the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ayden Shannon finished with a team high 21 points while Kate Hillyer added 10. Shannon is the 22nd player in program history to reach the 1,000 point milestone and the first stince Kiara Bradley in 2021.
- Paris Opelt grabbed a team best nine rebounds with Ella Bockenstedt adding six.
- Jewell hit 10 three point field goals but shot just 33% from the field on the game.
