QUINCY, Ill. - The William Jewell women's basketball team played nearly even for three quarters on Thursday night but a cold second period allowed Quincy University to go on top en route to a 89-67 win. The Cardinals fall to 4-12 on the season and 2-8 in conference play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After Quincy grabbed an early six point lead, the Cardinals responded with a 7-2 run after a three by Kate Hillyer to pull within one. Jewell took their first lead late the opening period as Kirsten Hauck hit a three but the Hawks got a layup to close the quarter leading, 19-18. 
• Jewell was 3-for-16 from the floor in the second period while the Hawks shot a blistering 71% to open up a 48-28 halftime advantage. 
• Quincy expanded their lead to 26 midway through the third before a 10-4 Cardinal run pulled them back within 20 but the Hawks finished on an 8-2 run of their own to lead 73-47.
• Jewell won the fourth quarter, outscoring Quincy 20-16, but it was too little too late as the Hawks rolled to the 89-67 win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 

• Hillyer finished with a career high 23 points while Bree Shannon added eight. 
• Maja Komaszynska came off the bench to pulled down a team best seven rebounds while Ella Bockenstedt blocked three shots. 
• Jewell forced 18 turnovers, leading to 19 points, but the Hawks scored 58 paint points.
