QUINCY, Ill. - Luke Jordan hit a three point shot with less than one second on the clock to give the William Jewell men's basketball team a 67-65 win on the road at Quincy University on Thursday night. The win snaps a five-game skid and moves Jewell to 6-12 on the year, 3-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both offenses started slow as Jewell led by eight early, holding the Hawks scoreless for the first five minutes. Quincy got on the board and responded with an 19-6 run to open up a five point advantage with six minutes to go in the first half. Kyle Scharbrough came off the bench to hit a three and spark a 14-5 Cardinal run and go back in front. A late turnover gave Quincy a bucket and make it 28-26 at the break, in favor of Jewell.
- The Cardinals kept the momentum at the start of the second half expanding their advantage to as many as 11 after a jumper from Jordan Jermain. Quincy chipped away over the next four-plus minutes to retake the lead, 56-54. Both offenses found a rhythm and converted on free throws over the following six minutes as the Hawks held a slim 65-64 lead. Jewell missed a three with five seconds remaining but an offensive rebound by Scharbrough gave the Cards one more opportunity. After a timeout, Scharbrough found Jordan on the left wing for a game winning three.
