CARDINAL NOTES

• William Jewell (2-3, 0-3) is returns to the friendly confines of Greene Stadium this weekend to kick off a three-game home stand as they host the Hawks of Quincy University (3-2, 1-1) for the fifth annual Battle of the Birds. The Cardinals are coming off a 63-17 loss at No. 19 ranked Indianapolis last weekend, despite forcing three turnovers.      
• Yasir Winston has put together back-to-back career games over previous weeks. The redshirt sophomore has hauled in 186 yards on nine receptions to go with 207 kick off return yards over the last two contests, which has launched him into eighth in the league at 19.2 yards per return.
• The Cardinal offense again moved the ball well at various times on Saturday as Tyler Kubat threw for 272 yards with Jake Shaffer adding 15 for 287 total, the most UIndy has surrendered to an opponent this season. Ten different Cardinals caught at least one pass for the second straight game, led by Reece Thomas' five for 48 yards. Nate Barnett and Yasir Winston each had a reception of 70-plus yards, the longest passes since 2023. 
• The Cardinals forced three fumbles, with two recoveries, last weekend at UIndy to up their season total to a Division II leading 11 as redshirt freshman Sonny Proctor is also tops in the nation with three while Justin Endicott and Max McKenzie are tied for fifth with two apiece In addition, Jewell ranks fourth nationally in turnovers gained with 15.  
• In his return, Isaiah Byrd picked up a season high 10 tackles, including seven solos. The junior is fifth on the team with 24 total, while Jonny Williams is tops at 34, 14th best in the GLVC, with three for loss. 
• Jewell has been bitten by the injury bug as of late, particularly on the defensive side. The absences have been felt in the secondary as Jewell has averaged 346.5 receiving yards allowed in the last two contests compared to just 240.3 in the previous three. Additionally, the line has been mostly contained recently, with two sack for 13 yards in the last two weeks combined after putting up 13 for 102 yards in the first three weeks. 
• On the other side, running back Ronnie Thomas, Jr. has moved into the starting role on the depth chart but is coming off his best game of the season, having 62 yards on 14 carries last weekend. Jewell will face off with one of the best rushing defenses in the league as Quincy University allows just 94.4 yards per game and just 17.8 points, both of which lead the GLVC. 
• Bleu Renfrow continues to shine in the punting game, averaging 41.1 yards per punt, fourth best in the GLVC and 29th in Division II. The rookie tied a season high with five punts last weekend for 196 yards and a long of 47.
