Cardinals Travel to No. 19 UIndy to Challenge Greyhounds

THIS WEEK'S ACTION:
vs. #19 University of Indianapolis (4-1, 2-0 GLVC)

Saturday, October 4, 2025
5:00 PM • Indianapolis, Ind.

CARDINAL NOTES

  • William Jewell (2-2, 0-2) is continues their two-game road swing this week as they travel to No. 19 UIndy for a match up with the perennial Greyhounds. UIndy (4-1, 2-0) has won four Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships under head coach Chris Keevers and was picked to win the league again this fall.
  • The Cardinals are coming off a tough 40-24 loss at McKendree University last week, where the shorthanded defense struggled to keep pace with the Bearcats in the second half. Down three starters, who between them combine for more than 13.5 tackles per game, Jewell allowed nearly nine yards per play.
  • One of the bright spots in the loss at McKendree was the distribution of the offense. Eleven different players caught at least one pass, led by Yasir Winston's 102 yards on seven catches. Layne Cavanah, Nate Barnett, AJ Austene, and Xavier Winston each hauled in four while Beau Doughty grabbed two receptions for a season best 46 yards. Quarterback Tyler Kubat picked up 313 passing yards, the most since CJ Ward's 339 in 2023.
  • Two weeks ago, penalty yards hindered the Cardinals in the 29-19 loss to Southwest Baptist, accumulating more than 135 on 12 miscues. Jewell showed significant improvement last week in that area with a season low five penalties for 42 yards.
  • Jewell continues to pace the GLVC in rushing defense, allowing just 88.5 yards per game. Despite allowing big 56-yard run on the first drive last week, the Cardinals settled and held McKendree to just 33 net yards the remainder of the contest. Jewell has not allowed more than 117 rushing yards in a game this season and will face a big test this week with UIndy's 154.8 average per game.
  • Justin Endicott picked up another sack last week, to push the Cardinal's total to a GLVC leading 3.50 per game. Derrick Von Hubbard leads Jewell with 1.13, which ranks ninth nationally while Endicott and Parker Cummins are both among the top-10 in the league.
