Late Rally Falls Short to Davenport in Low Scoring Affair

LIBERTY, Mo. - The William Jewell men's basketball team put together a second half rally on Saturday afternoon but dropped a 63-55 decision to Davenport University to fall to 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a slow start offensively that saw three minutes go by without a shot, the Cardinals got going, scoring eight points led by six from Justice Sutton. With Davenport leading by one midway through the half, the Panthers went on a 16-3 run to open up a 14 point advantage before Kyle Scharbrough's jumper ended the skid. Jewell was able to get a bucket from Peter Obeng just before the break to make it 29-20 in favor of Davenport.
  • Out of the locker room, the Panthers pushed their lead to 15 over first three minutes before Jewell began to chip away sparked by an Isaac Patterson three pointer. Over the next 13-plus minutes the Cardinals slowly cut into the double deficit, eventually tying the game on a Sutton triple at 53-all with just under three minutes to go. With 65 second on the clock, the Panthers hit a dagger three pointer, followed by two free throws, to go back in front for good.
